Flannel Sheets

Is there anything that says 'winter' more than flannel sheets?
Okay, maybe snow, frost, ice, snowman, skiing…

Let's try this again.

Is there anything better in winter, when you're going to bed, and have already had a hot chocolate and a snuggle with your loved ones, and have enjoyed the fire and the Christmas tree lights…
than flannel sheets?

Forget I asked.

Let's leave it at  "I love flannel sheets in winter".

Flannel sheets are fairly easy to come by this time of year, but flannel duvet covers can be pricey.

I'm a bit of a sheet snob - I don't want the cheapest out there if they aren't nice.

The solution?

Sew a duvet cover!

It's probably the easiest project you will ever do.
If you can sew a straight line, you're done.

I have great luck getting quality sheets at Costco.
These were $40 each for king size.
Flat, fitted and two pillow cases.

You DON'T have to buy two sets of sheets.

I did this totally in error and didn't process my mistake until after I'd already sewn them.
(Typical of me unfortunately).

You probably have spare flat sheets in your linen closet that could be used as the other side of the duvet.

Take your two flat sheets, sew three of the sides from edge to edge.

Sew the fourth side leaving an opening for your duvet to go in and out of and you're done!

Because the flat sheets were already finished - you don't need to worry about hemming them or any fraying of the edges.

Here's how they turned out;
I could fancy them up with differed (bright) decorative pillows.

Sew a ribbon along the top edge or as a square insert like the hotel comforters...

But for me - this is perfect.

In fact, this is last year's Costco set(s):

You can't really tell with the lighting, but my walls are BM's Chelsea Gray - a beautiful, warm gray - so I can put almost any colour bedding on and it will still fit in.

So if I hadn't screwed up, this would have been a $40 bedding set - duvet, fitted sheet, and two pillow cases.

That's impressive if you ask me?

Time to snuggle in!

Have a great one!
