Madison had a project for school where she had to take a "Nobody" doll and turn him/her into a "Somebody".
The only way to do this was to do a RAK (Random Act of Kindness), have your photo taken with the doll while you were doing it, and then create a patch to pin to the doll.
At the end of the year all of the kids will have done a RAK and the doll should be covered with patches.
Since the girls had been saving their allowance in their "Share jars", we thought we'd take it out to the London Humane Society and do our RAK there.
We bought a few cat toys and some old soccer balls for the dogs (I called and that's what they needed that day);
Please forgive the state of Madison's hair - she's 7 and is determined to do it herself. Ugh! |
(Unbelievable for a 5 and 7 year old!)
The girls were so proud to have saved their money and to give it to a cause they love so much.
They even offered to volunteer on a weekly basis.
If you want to know the feeling of ultimate parental pride, teach your children to give and watch as they lead by example.
My heart was bursting.
While we were there we visited some of the inmates.
The two ladies in the bottom left wouldn't stop dancing for us, so I couldn't get a clear shot.
The beautiful pup in the lower right is Molly.
It was all I could do to not bring her home with us...
but the last two times I've been at an adoption place, I've come home with cats.
It's probably time I let Hubby have some input on what animal comes home next.
Chloe's choice |
If you are looking for a pet - big or small - PLEASE check out your local Humane Society.
For those of you in London and area there's also a pet fair on this weekend where you could find your next family member.
You may even see us there!
Have a great one!
