Organizing Paint

I love to paint.
I LOVE to paint.

Thought I'd mention it just in case it wasn't obvious from all the projects on this blog...

Every time I go to start a new project, I decide on a colour and then head out to Home Depot or Benjamin Moore and buy another quart (or gallon depending on the project) of paint.

I just assume that any leftover paint I have lying around won't be enough for my new project.

Well, that game plan isn't working for me.

I have cans of paint everywhere.  In the basement, in the workshop, in the garage.
I had no idea how much of what I had, or even where I kept certain colours.

Bad girl!

So I took an hour the other day to inventory what I do have.
This is just what was hidden under the stairs.
Multiply it by 3 and you'll have an idea of the quantity of paint actually stock-piled here.

I picked up a bunch of mason jars at a garage sale last year so I thought it was about time I put them to use.

Standard Avery shipping labels with the paint company, colour, name and year (if I knew it).

I am SHOCKED at how much paint I actually have.

By just transferring my leftovers into these jars, I managed to clear out 20 cans of paint.
Now I can see the colours I have on hand, I've freed up space in the basement and the workshop, and I'll save money by not running out to get another quart every time I want to refresh something.

PLUS, I found I have almost-full gallons of some colours.  When they were piled high, I had no idea of the quantities in each can.  By doing this, I've found 8 gallons of paint that are almost full that I can re-tint, or freshen up an entire room with!

I'm going to the garage to admire my pretty bottles now.  lol

Cleaning is just putting stuff in less obvious places.

Have a great one!
