Mirrored Pine Cones... or not.

I found a pin on Pinterest the other day that had me drooling:

Aren't these just GORGEOUS!
The image came from the Pottery Barn site, but no where on the site could find them for sale.  The image was to sell the mirrored bowl they are sitting in.

The pin had a caption underneath it that said "Pine cones painted with mirror spray paint".

That seems easy enough, and I REALLY wanted these beauties!

I have a bag of pine cones here and several little pomegranates and spheres that all got the "mirrored" treatment.

I found this spray at Michael's for $20 a can (and it's a small can).  Even with your 40% of coupon this is an expensive project.

One coat clearly wasn't going to cut it:

About 5 light coats later (and both cans of spray paint) this is what I ended up with.

Mirror-ish?
But not at all like the photo from PB.

When I put them outside, they actually appeared to be sort of a flat grey colour, so I added a bit of glue to the ends and some Dazzling Diamonds glitter to give it a bit of oomph.

Learn from my mistake here - you will be FAR better off just buying a few containers of the dazzling diamonds and some spray adhesive than forking out the money for the looking glass spray.

What a bummer.

At least now we have a new pinnable so that no one else wastes their money.

Have a great one!
