Homemade Ornaments

This craft is so Martha Stewart.

I didn't copy her, but I'm sure she has something out there just like this.
I can picture these rustic ornaments hanging on her very tree - and they are so easy to make!

All you need is a fallen branch about 2" in diameter.
No need to cut anything down - just take a fall stroll through a forest and you will find more than you could ever use.

Cut (or get someone WONDERFUL) to cut the branch down to disks about 1/4" (.6 cm) thick.

Once you have all you plan to make, put them in the oven to dry out.  I just turned the oven off after dinner one night and left the disks in to dry out in the waning heat.

Once they are dry, drill a small hole for the hanger/ribbon/twine to go through and give it a light sanding.

For this part I used a Silhouette machine - but there would be just as much (if not more) charm in hand-writing something.  The year, your family name - or even draw out a tree.  You could even use a rubber stamp here if you sanded your disk fairly smooth.

If you do draw on your disk - use a Sharpie and make sure it has completely cured before moving on to the next step - you don't want the ink to bleed everywhere.

This part is up to the "Artiste";  I chose to use some more of the sparkle Mod Podge, but you could go glossy or matte or they even have an antique version of Mod Podge.

Two coats (on both sides) and then string your twine through the hole.

I love, love, LOOOOOVE these!

My tree may have to go from Vegas-crazy to rustic and charming this year just so I can use these.

HEY!  You could also use these as gift hangers (gift tags)!  Wouldn't that be a cute addition to a Christmas present?
