Knowing that, in this cold, my two will be spending some time in front of the TV, I thought I would tackle making a pillow mattress.
The best tutorial I found was that from Creative Lady of the House.

So cute!
My tutorial is based on hers.
All I've changed up is that I only made the 4 pillow bed, and instead of accurate measuring, I just split the fabric to determine where the seams for each pocket would go.
You will need 2.5 yards of fabric at 60" wide.
Alternatively, you could use 2.5 yards of 45" fabric, but you'll need to add an extra strip of fabric 8" wide to one side. (which is what I did), and 4 pillows.
For the 5 pillow version and measurements, click the link above.
Chloe is 6, but tall for her age, and the 4 pillow version is perfect for her.
I just didn't know where we were going to store this thing when it's not in use - so I wanted to keep it as compact as possible.
She's home sick from school today so I let her use it to snuggle up on.
Thumbs up from our "Coconut"!
I used old pillows we had in the linen closet and some flannel fabric I had in my "stash".
Another tutorial I found said that they used the $1 pillows from Ikea and a twin size duvet cover. I think theirs came in around $15.
Took about an hour of time and it's totally washable!
I'm so pleased!
Thank you Creative Lady of the House!
Have a great one!

LOVE IT.

ReplyDeleteFyi, anyone who wants to make this 4 pillow bed, do NOT use 2.5 yards of fabric, that is the measurement for 5 pillows. Unfortunately I learned that one the hard way
ReplyDeleteHaha thank you! My brain was like "but....if they're 17 inches apart...."
DeleteHaha I wanted the 5 pillow anyways. Thanks for matching for me!
Cool idea. This would be a great way to make a mattress topper for a sofa bed or any bed that you want to make more comfy. Just Make it as wide and long as the bed and stuff with the requisite number of pillows to cover the bed.
