In fact 5,500 people have commented on this recipe and the average rating is 4.5 stars (out of 5) - so this is not mine to receive accolades for.
I'm going to share it anyways though, for those of you that don't surf for recipes online - and to assure you that it is in fact the "Best Brownie" recipe we have tried.
You will need:
- 1/2 cup butter (I use salted)
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp salt (I omit this because of the salted butter)
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Grease and flour an 8" square pan.
In a large saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter.
Remove from heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
Beat in the cocoa, flour, salt (if you use it) and baking powder.
Spread batter into prepared pan.
(I made a double batch because they never last more than a day here.)
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes - until a knife slipped into the centre comes out clean. Do not over bake.
For the icing -
You will need;3 tbsp butter, softened
3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup icing sugar (confectioner's sugar)
(I use a tsp or two of milk as well to thin the icing slightly)
Put all ingredients into the mixer and stir until smooth.
Frost the brownies while they are still warm.
And now the 'money shot':
forgive the terminology - but quite frankly, this is a far better "money shot" than any that might be posted elsewhere.
(Don't google it - you don't want to know)
Makes a great classroom treat for the upcoming Valentine's Day parties - I've had kids actually request I bring more in!
Have a great one!
