I bought myself a little vase of flowers the other week which have since wilted...
But the vase is just the perfect shape and size to hold pens & pencils.
I didn't want to use it for pens as-was because I hate the ink-gunk that accumulates in the bottom of pen holders. I didn't want to be able to see it - so I thought etching might make a nice alternative.
I used the Silhouette to cut a couple of images that I liked out of adhesive vinyl. (But you could do stripes with painter's tape and it would work just as well).
Remember to wash the glass down with rubbing alcohol - VERY IMPORTANT - or the etching cream will leave splotches everywhere.
Then I adhered the vinyl to the vase - and a dollar store glass I had on hand just for this project.
It's actually really pretty as-is - but there's still my dilemma of having to see the ink-gunk.
A thick coating of Martha's etching cream (yup, still the same bottle from before - this stuff goes a LOOOOOONG way).
Let sit for about 15 minutes and then wash off with water.
Peel your adhesive off and admire your handy-work!
One for the girls' workstation to hold pencils for homework.
And one for me!
So much better than keeping yet another vase in the cupboard never to be seen again.
