She is a Mom, an Entrepreneur, a sought-after speaker and an Executive Business Coach.
I had heard of Kathleen before through various networking groups and she was/is seen as the woman that has 'made it work'.
She has four children, was a single-parent and still managed to go from mopping the floors at a Little Caesar's to owning 5 franchises.
Let's be honest, most days I can't remember what day of the week it is and what I have scheduled for the next day - to raise 4 children and be a successful businesswoman seemed out of reach…
Until I listened in on one of her Webinars - "The Frog Buffet"
I didn't know what a business coach did - I'm still not sure that I know the real extent of their reach in helping small business owners - make that any business owners - reach their full potential.
What I do know is that participating in that one, single webinar for 30 minutes - has made a difference;
In my business.
In my life.
I have Kathleen's permission to share this tidbit;
Kathleen's discussion included this chart.
What you are supposed to do is write down every single thing you do in a day.
Once you've done that, take each item and put it into a quadrant on the chart.
Quadrant 1 - Urgent - Important
This quadrant is for items that need to be done right away and they are important to the well being of you, your family or your business.
Not doing these items will have a negative impact on some aspect of your life.
Quadrant 2 - Not urgent - Important
This quadrant is for items that are important and need to get done, but without the same urgency as quadrant 1. A definer for this quadrant would be "Will I profit/benefit from doing these items" - if the answer is yes, your task should go here.
Quadrant 3 - Urgent - Not Important
This quadrant speaks to deadlines. The tasks in this section are important and must get done, but there is potential to delegate them to someone else.
What do you do each day that could really be delegated to someone else?
Quadrant 4 - Not Urgent - Not Important
This section was a bit of an eye-opener for me. I do so many things in one day that I feel are necessary - but to what end?
This quadrant is for those tasks that really aren't as important as they seem. To determine what fits here, ask yourself "Will this task have an effect on my life or business if it does not get done?
I think you'll be surprised what items can fit here.
I did an approximation of my day and came up with my graph:
What I learned in doing this is that I don't have to be Super-Mom or Wonder-Wife and try do do it all.
There are items that could easily be delegated if I could just relinquish my control and perfectionism and let someone else handle them.
There are items that suck up way too much of my time and are not providing me a return on my investment - in my case Facebook is a huge culprit.
There are redundant items like cleaning and tidying - perhaps cleaning thoroughly every-so-often and giving up the constant tidying are a better use of my time?
I've tried this over the last few days - thinking about items before I tackle them. Is it important to my life and/or business? Can it be delegated? Is tackling this task just a tactic in avoidance behaviour?
Let me tell you, I have shaved hours of needless "to-do's" off of my list. I am learning to refocus on what is really important, and to not make other things more important than they really should be.
If you'd like to see a recording of the webinar that Kathleen held, please click here. It is free and no-obligation - and I think it is very worthy of your time.
If 30 minutes spent saves me 2-3 hours a day - then that's a pretty substantial return on my time investment.

Have a great one!
Time management is very important. Shelly, I have learned over the years to schedule professional and personal meetings, lunch, coffee dates and to do personal chores in the same area of various cities and towns so I am not wasting time by driving more than I have to. People will come to you. Being a perfectionist I have had to learn that I cannot do everything and therefore I delegate family and friend's help. Most personal chores such as grocery shopping, putting away the groceries, laundry and cooking are now done by other family members. I love to cook and clean but when someone cooks I clean up after etc. Best wishes in your endevours!
