Father's Day Bleached Shirts

I'll continue with my favourite posts of the last year tomorrow - but I wanted to get this one posted first in case you wanted to give it a try:

Bleached t-shirts!

For Father's Day!

LOVE IT!

I picked up a couple of shirts at Old Navy - nothing fancy, but they have to be cotton (this won't work on dry wick shirts).

I printed off the words and image I wanted on the Silhouette Cameo, but you could easily just write it out with a bleach pen, or print on wax paper and tape down to the shirt.

Centre and stick down onto the shirt.

Next I put a plastic garbage bag inside (between the front and back layers of the shirt) and smoothed the front down.

Don't forget this part or the bleach will soak through both layers of the t-shirt.

I then covered the areas I didn't want bleached with wax paper and taped them down.

I watered down the bleach a little bit; say 2 parts bleach and 1 part water (I was worried full strength might actually eat a hole through the fabric) put in a spray bottle and spritz over the letters.

You'll notice I missed covering a few spots…   bleach in a spray bottle has quite an overspray distance…. learned the hard way...

I let it sit in the sun for a few minutes and then let the girls peel the wax paper and vinyl off.

For the grill shirt there was quite a bit of overspray that left pink bleach spots everywhere - so I decided to make it look intentional and spatter spray all over the tank top:
I removed the wax paper, but left the vinyl on and spritzed again - front and back.

Remove the garbage bag from inside and wash in the washing machine - by themselves - before gifting/wearing.

The great thing about these is that unlike a lot of printed shirts, the decals won't wear off or peel - plus you can put any saying you like on the shirt….

I've seen ones with #1 Dad, or Best Dad Ever, or the Superman logo.

I think I spent about a half hour making these, and the shirts themselves were only $5 each.

Custom gifts on a budget!

  Have a great one!
