It could be for Christmas, Mother's Day, Grandmother's Day, a birthday or even "just because".
It takes a bit of work - but trust me it is SO worth it!
A family cookbook!
This is a photo I took last year of the girls holding hands in front of our Christmas tree.
I love this shot.
I'm not the best photographer, but I think this image captures a real 'moment'. One I'll treasure forever.
I had to use it for my cover.
I made my book through a site called "Blurb", but in all honesty, you could make it on any photo site - they all have the capability of holding both photos and text on a page.
I started by compiling all of my favourite recipes.
Ones from grandparents, parents, friends, neighbours etc.
Ones that we eat on a fairly regular basis - even if its just the holidays.
Ones that you look forward to having whenever you see that person, or are celebrating a holiday.
I will confess that I copied the photos from various sites on the internet (I wasn't going to bake/make every item just to have photographs!) and then I input the recipes into the pre-formatted page.
I titled each page with the name of the person that usually makes it, or who is famous for the recipe.
Because the book is for my girls, I've called our parents "Nana, Papa, Grandma" & "Grandpa".
Our book ended up being 58 pages and I organized it by sub-topics "Appetizers, Salads, Soups, Entrees, Sides" and "Baking".
On the back I gave a dedication:
I had 5 copies of the book printed last year - one for our Mom's, one for me and one for each girl when they grow up.
Perhaps 'heirloom' isn't the correct word?
I know it usually pertains to jewellery and the like, but in this case, I think it will be a treasured keepsake that will hopefully get passed down from generation to generation?
