The Giving Plate

This idea was on our "100 Random Acts of Kindness" list that I posted a few days ago.

I came across the idea - like most of my ideas - on Pinterest.

"The Adventures of an Orthodox Mom" had pinned a photo of a "Giving Plate" that she had done with a sharpie.

You know I love me some sharpies! 

A friend of ours was moving and got rid of a bunch of home decor items, so I picked up her 3 gorgeous glass leaf plates with the intention of creating our own Giving Plate to share with friends.

Now just so you don't make the same mistake I did, this Sharpie is specifically for glass, porcelain and the like.

I tried this with a regular Sharpie and even with the baking, the ink came off after the second wash.

I found them at Michael's for $6.99, but I had my trusty 40% off coupon with me.

 I did all three plates, with an abbreviated version of the poem on the smallest one.  

(Apparently my eyes are crooked because all three came out with slanted writing - Oops!)

Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes and it shouldn't come off.
*Warning: because these are 'paint' sharpies, the smell from baking them is atrocious.

Marketing genius that I am, I took one with squares on it to a job interview the other day;

I figured if I was hired, I'd be "IN" with the staff for bringing treats OR
If I wasn't hired, the staff might at least ask "What happened to the lady with the squares?"

It's all about leaving an impression right?

Worst case I'd be known as the nut-job that brought treats to a job interview - but even still - I would have stuck in their minds for at least 30 seconds longer than I would have with my resume alone?  (hopefully?)

The HR Manager that I met with admitted that she liked to bake, so I told her to pass the plate forward.
