Butcher's Block Makeover

This makeover may not translate well to 'blogovision'.

At least half of the impressiveness of this transformation comes in the feel of the wood after the makeover.

You're just going to have to trust me on this one.

My parents have been housing this enormous butcher's block in their basement for some time.
A recent purge uncovered it, and it was sent to my house for a little TLC:
I have no idea what caused all of the black on it?
Mold? Moisture?  Fire?

A barrage of sandpaper ranging from 60 grit all the way down to 400 grit left it looking like this:
A light coating of mineral oil and you can see some of the deeper cut marks, but overall, this piece is GORGEOUS!

So much so that it's coming to live with me.

Smoother than a baby's bum!

I just bought $200 worth of groceries... then I ordered in pizza because I didn't feel like cooking after the hassle of buying groceries.
Have a great one!
