This is a result of a small paint job, a little organization and a bit of 'styling'.
Here are my family room built-ins:
Not bad, but there's potential for better.
Particularly if I folded my laundry before taking the photo.
I get e-mails from Style At Home Magazine about inexpensive makeovers. The one I got last week was about "Styling Your Bookshelves".
It hadn't occurred to me that they needed styling until I got this e-mail. (That's good marketing!)
I surfed Pinterest and sure enough, my built-ins weren't pin-worthy.
At the very least they needed dusting.
Now, because I had organized all of my extra paint, I knew that I had a jar of BM's Amazon Soil lying around. Not enough to paint the whole room, but enough to paint the back of the bookshelves.
I didn't paint the bottom section because they house Hubby's surround sound speakers and I thought he might
I also noticed that the majority of bookcases I admired had even shelving all the way across.
Mine were staggered.
Not that this is wrong - I was fitting the shelves to the contents - but for a geometrically pleasing look, I guess you're supposed to fit the contents to the shelves.
What do I know?
So you tell me, knowing that this entire project only took a couple of hours and zero dollars, was it worth it?
That's better than when I woke up this morning!
A RAK emerged from this - all of the purged books were donated to my local library!
