Organization - Vet Records

This post is probably most useful for dog owners, we/they have to keep track of yearly licenses and vaccinations that are pertinent for kenneling reasons.

With cats, you just need a pet sitter - but it doesn't hurt to keep track of vet visits or special medicines they might need or have taken.

I know I've told you about our new additions "Milo" and "Otis" - gregarious orange tabbies - but we've also had dogs...

Big dogs.

Unfortunately big dogs, don't have a big life spans, and we lost both our golden retriever, "Memphis-Belle", and our old english sheepdog, "Dunnigan MacDoogle", just this past year.

It was really for them - particularly as they aged - that organizing vet records became so important.

I kept a report folder in our office labelled "Dogs" (now re-labelled "Cats").

 Inside I have labelled a pocket for each cat:

After each vet visit, I simply tuck the invoice into the front of the pocket - can't get any easier than that!

For our dogs, this was really handy when Animal Control canvassed the neighbourhood to make sure that all licenses were up-to-date.  I was able to quickly pull out my folder and show them the receipt.

If we ever put the dogs in the kennel, they inevitably asked for proof of vaccination for kennel cough and rabies.  Again, I just took my folder at check-in and was able to produce the most recent records with no effort.

Finally, as dogs age, you might want to keep track of tests (hips, kidneys etc), and medications that your pet may be on.  

It would be particularly handy for those rare occasions when you have to scramble to the Emergency Vet to have their stomachs pumped because they ate an entire pound of coffee off the counter... 


That one was too specific right?  Obviously not something that ever happened in this household. lol

A quick and easy tip that may come in handy.
