Homemade Nesquik

I won't profess to be a great cook.

I'm not even a good cook.

As a general rule, when I do cook, the smoke alarm in the house goes off.

That's not an exaggeration.

It's so bad, that my children aren't afraid of the smoke alarm anymore... they just tell their friends "Oh that's just Mommy cooking" when the siren goes off.

BUT,
I can bake.

I CAN handle sugar.

So here's one I thought I'd share - super easy, will save you money AND will get your kids to drink their milk...

Homemade liquid Nesquik knock-off;

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of cocoa powder
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 4 cups of water*
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  •  Optional: add 1 tsp of vanilla to the mixture
*I like our syrup thin - the kind that when you add milk to it, you don't even need to stir.
If you like it thicker, use less water.

Put all ingredients into a large saucepan.
Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
Reduce heat and let boil for 1-2 minutes while stirring.
Let cool.
Put in airtight container.

It's kind of nice not to have to run to the grocery store and pay $9 for a jug,
AND it's kind of nice that I know what the ingredients are:

This recipe will make about 1 litre - I just pour it right back into the container and store in the cupboard.

The kids will be none-the-wiser!

Raisin cookies that look like chocolate chip cookies are the main reason I have trust issues.
Have a great one!
